Copenhagen’s culture month, Wondercool, which runs throughout February, lets you explore the lesser-known Copenhagen, celebrate Nordic cuisine and blue gold, listen to music in basement car parks, take a ‘behind the scenes’ look at architecture and enjoy MAD Mondays.

Wondercool - Copenhagen Lumpfish roe safari and a museum rock show

Drinks and music in the Palm House; a lumpfish roe safari by bike; and a journey through the history of fashion - these are just some of the exciting events lined up when the winter festival, Wondercool, transforms February into Copenhagen's culture month.
Tuesday, December 4, 2012

Rather than just being cold, February is going to be super-cool this year, as the winter festival, Wondercool, launches a programme featuring more than 100 events encompassing food, music, design, architecture, art and fashion.

Copenhagen Jazz Festival, the Danish Design Center, the Danish Arkitektur Center, Copenhagen Art Festival, Copenhagen Fashion Festival, Copenhagen Cooking and the rock festival, FROST have joined together with Wonderful Copenhagen to create a new, annual  winter festival which aims to lure tourists to the city, and get Copenhageners out of their homes, during February.

Singed sheep's head and rock at the Zoologist Museum

There will be plenty to stimulate all the senses. The winter edition of Copenhagen Cooking offers, among other things, a lumpfish roe safari, by bike;  midnight mussels in the Meat Packing District; and an Icelandic pagan festival with ram's testicles and singed sheep's head. You can also learn how to cook the perfect steak; take a trip through the world of liquorice; or indulge in desserts. If you are interested in the finest Nordic restaurants, you can sample food from several of the best at the Admiral Hotel.

FROST and Copenhagen Cooking offer drinks and stimulating music when sound experimentalists Frisk Frugt play the Botanic Garden's Palm House, and if you want to explore new Danish and international rock, Danish band Sleep Party People are playing the Zoological Museum, while Clap Your Hands Say Yeah from the US play the Bremen theatre.

Cool jazz, fashion then and now, and art in urban spaces

On the jazz front, there are well known names such as Jack DeJohnette and Palle Mikkelborg, as well as newer acts, such as Pistol No.9 and Japgaf on the programme. They will be playing at various venues, such as the Koncerthus; the shop, Fish; and café Retro.

The Danish Design Center will take visitors on a journey through the last decade of Danish fashion, as well as offering ideas about what the future holds for the industry, and Designmuseum Danmark will host the exhibition, 'Northern Women in Chanel'. Elsewhere on the fashion front, during the opening part of the Copenhagen Fashion Festival you will be able to find various discounts on offer at shops in the city; win tickets to catwalk shows; and relax during a wellness  evening.

As a prelude to the August 2012 festival, Copenhagen Art Festival will present a number of art videos to be shown at five galleries and in public spaces around the  city. The Danish Arkitektur Center will open its doors to tours; lead guided architecture tours out and about in the city on Sundays; and present an interactive  exhibition on the City Hall Square.
