Denmark is a country with a rich history of film. Nordic Film located just outside Copenhagen is the oldest film company establish in 1906 over a hundred years ago. And the longstanding film tradition has continued. In the 90's with the new cinema movement "Dogme" and in recent years with world class directors like Lars von Trier (Nymphomaniac), Susanne Bier  (In a Better World) and Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) competing at the Oscars. Also Danish actors like Mads Mikkelsen and Ulrich Thomsen are breaking through in Hollywood on TV and on the silver screen.

3 x official nominations for Denmark

The history of Danish film is long and star-studded. With several Oscar wins for Best Foreign Language Movie the quest for the golden statues has become a national pride.
This year Thomas Vinterberg's The Hunt is nominated – we will be holding our breaths, when the statues are handed out.  

Alongside The Hunt, the controversial documentary "The Act of Killing" by Joshua Oppenheimer and Signe Byrge Sørensen is also nominated in the category "Documentary Feature".
Lastly Anders Walter's "Helium" is also nominated in the category "Short Film (Live Action)".
