11 handicap friendly designed holiday homes at Hou Beach on the Danish east coast. The spacious houses are the perfect base for the coastal holiday at the Odder Coast – regardless of your needs

Holiday homes with good facilities

These holiday homes located on a large lot next to Hou Beach in cosy surroundings are well sheltered from all the life and activity of the fine sandy beach. The houses are only a short distance away from Hou, the ferry port and the big attractions of East Jutland.

With 100 m2, the holiday homes have lots of space for the whole family. They are equipped with all the facilities you need with a fully equipped kitchen, washing machine, tumble dryer, and two large bedrooms – each with their own bathroom. There are a total of eight beds in each house. All houses are equipped with TV and free Wi-Fi, a wood stove, and a large patio with garden furniture.

The houses are located on a large beach lot with large trees that create a forest-like atmosphere.

Built with a focus on accessibility

Everyone should have the option of enjoying a good holiday at the coast – regardless of their needs and handicaps. Therefore, the holiday homes and the facilities around them were developed with a focus of making them accessible for the walking-impaired and wheelchair users. The houses are big and spacious with plenty of room to maneuver around. The bathroom has aids and a lift, and the kitchen counter and cupboards have adjustable height. In each house there are two remote controlled beds, and all floors have a non-slip surface.

Outside there is a wide tarmacked network of paths leading down to a 150-metre-long bathing jetty. The bridge is so wide that two wheelchairs can easily pass each other. The bridge is equipped with a crane and ramps. There are also an accessible restroom and changing room here.

The Coastal Path at Hou has a wheelchair friendly surface all the way to the harbour in Hou making it easy to get to the centre on this beautiful panorama route.

Activities

Around the houses there is a tennis court, a beach volley court, and a nature playground that can be used by guests. Hou Søsportcenter is run by Egmont Højskolen (folk high school). They also run Denmark’s most accessible indoor swimming centre, Vandhalla. Vandhalla is only a couple of hundred metres away and has a 90-metre-long water slide with a lift.
