Discover the towns of West Jutland

West Jutland is typified by small harbour and fishing towns. The largest of these, Esbjerg, is a bustling port town. All of them are shaped by the maritime history of this historic area.

Esbjerg

The harbour city of Esbjerg has developed into Denmark's offshore industry capital, servicing North Sea rigs, wind farms and fisheries. Founded in 1868, it is Denmark’s youngest city and is known for its network of winding streets. Visit its unusual landmark, a nine metre-high sculpture, Man meets the sea, by Danish sculptor Svend Wiig Hansen

Herning

Located at the heart of Jutland’s heathland is Herning, Denmark's textile city and an exciting centre for exhibitions and galleries.

Ringkøbing

Experience the charming old fjord town of Ringkøbing, where townsman and well-known architect, Ulrik Plesner, made his impression on the town with his distinctive red brick houses. You can also see unique gable decorations on the old houses, a distinct local architectural style.

Other towns and villages

The beautiful old towns of Lemvig, Struer and Skive, situated by Limfjord, make great day trips. Struer is famous as the home to world-class sound and design company Bang & Olufsen. In Holstebro, culture is blooming and the town boasts a distinct, outdoor sculpture by Giacometti, the Woman on a Cart. West Jutland offers you numerous quaint little fishing villages, such as Hvide Sande on Holmsland Dune and Thyborøn.
