Skagen Museum

Cultural Skagen

Skagen is the birthplace of the Skagen Painters, an artistic enclave that appeared in the area at the end of the 19th century. The ever-changing light, cosy fishing villages and uncompromising nature proved their main inspiration.

Skagens Museum features over 1,800 works from Danish and international artists, roughly covering the period from the 1870s to the 1930s. The works on display not only showcase paintings by famous Skagen Painters such as PS Krøyer and Anna Ancher but also give an insight into the culture and life of the people living in the artist colony.
